In some ways it seems like only yesterday. I attended UT for four years, didn't get a degree, but met my husband, John Thompson. We married in August of 72 and lived in Ft Worth for three years, while he finished medical school. While in Ft Worth I was able to finish my degree in elementary education.
We lived in York, PA for a year and loved the beautiful country. Everyone thought I talked funny!
We moved back to TX in the summer of 76 and have lived in Temple ever since. I taught special ed for two years and I was teaching kindergarten for the fourth year when our first child Will, appeared on our doorstep. (both our children are adopted) While we were waiting for our second bundle from heaven, Will was diagnosed with Tourette syndrome. In the mist of our sorrow, God sent us our precious Rachel.
Life has not been what I ever would have expected, but I have come to know God in a way that might not have ever happened if it wasn't for Will. I stayed home with the kids for 16 years and in that period of time I did lots of field trips, swimming at noon (WILL), tutoring after school, swimming after school(WILL) and overnight trips with Will, so his life could be as normal as possible. In 1998, God dropped an art teacher's job in my lap. It has been a great experience. It has been interesting how many special needs kids I have had in my classroom the last eight years.
