Moved to Houston in early '70 with a friend from Lake Jackson Beverly Faulkner. Her and I were roomates in Freeport for a while, then moved to Houston to the "big city".
Met my husband in August of '70 and married in Dec '70. Then when I was in the hospital for the birth of my son in '72, Bev had her first date with my husbands friend Larry Lewellyn, whom she married and is still with.
Worked for Ma Bell for 32 1/2 years and retired. purchased a 1923 Craftsman home we are restoring and have moved into at Shiner Texas. My dream for years is to have a B&B, maybe one day it will happen still. Right now, I enjoy working on the house, watching my 3 beautiful grand children grow. I enjoy quilting and gardening and gambling, not necessarly in that order. Our home in Houston was bought out by Harris county flood control. When Hurricane Allison came through we had 4 ft of water in it and they did not buy us out back then, we started remodeling right after my retirement. I learned how to put in crown molding, baseboards, did all the painting and wallpapering. Also learned that I did not like doing sheetrock work. Left that to the professionals. Learned that most of the work was something I enjoyed doing because it became somewhat of a creative outlet. Now I am going to do it all over again in Shiner. A lot already done but one bathroom left to finish after we move in. Going to pay someone to finish this one I think!!
9-09 finally have tile in the bathroom. Beadboard trim is next which I will do, with the help of my son.
I have done many things as creative outlets, painting, singing, craft work of all kinds but now I have taken up quilting and it has become a passion for me. I work local quilt shop in Shiner and have even started creating my own patterns.
Retirement is wonderful and full of surprises! Some of the best is enjoying my beautiful grand children and just life in the SLOW lane in Shiner.
Now for fun and profit hopefully one day I am a quilter. TexasLadybugquilts.weebly.com is my website. I make quilts and do quilting for people and repair quilts. I love it..I finally found my passion and what I was meant to do after trying many things.
12-13-2014, Well, with much regret I have had to close my quilting business because of health issues. First, just shakiness and trembles I call them mostly in my hands, which the Dr cannot seem to pinpoint. Now with what looks like rheumatoid arthritis and painful nodules on my feet and wrist. Going to see an arthritis specialist later this week.
June 2016...Well, I have Sarcoid (?) arthritis, had the nodules removed but also have what they call Essential Tremors where my hands will shake and when it starts, I can feel it all the way to my bones. They also have said I have that stupid Fibromiralgia and Chronic Fatigue syndrome. Basicly what happens is I walk to the mailbox and when I come in I feel like I have run a marathon, everything hurts and I start my shaking. So, I went to physical therapy for a month and a half and that helped some so we could take our trip to Alaska. 26 days on the road, but worth every minute. I did not have to cook, or clean or do anything strenuous except the couple of walks I took but I lasted longer. Back at home and going to get back to the gym again. Have added a few pics from our trip. So many mountains and SNOW!!!
